Late Check-Out: Lights OutThree hours until check-out

She knows that you know. Your phone buzzes: the old key is in the cellar door, where Edmund left it, and the kitchen is where she is. Come by the dark rooms. In a room where my light is on, I can see you, and I cannot let you past.

Hour Three: the dark rooms

A stone cellar in a restored manor under one modern light: worn stone steps up to an old black oak door standing open, an iron key in its lock, and a modern fuse board on the whitewashed wall where a soldier's trunk once stood. Nobody there.

The old cellar door at the head of the stair is open, black oak on new hinges, and the iron key you hid in 1665 is in its lock, where Edmund left it. You stand on the cellar stair. Your phone buzzes again:

I have left the lights on in the library and the hall, and in the boot room and the larder, so you will not be lonely. The doors are locked. Please do not come through a lit room. I cannot let you past if I can see you.

The ground floor, as it has always been, three rows of four, with the cellar stair at the bottom left and the kitchen in the middle:

Library Hall Dining Front
Still Passage Kitchen Scull.
Cellar Boot Larder Back

Go from the cellar stair to the kitchen by the dark rooms.

The ground floor. Start on the cellar stair; end in the kitchen.

The way so far: Cellar stair

To the lights.
