Late Check-Out: Lights Outthe key

Hour Two: the accusation

Nudge. Everything the house has done all week points one way. Who would thank you for keeping a fire? Where did the knocks come from in 1922? Which of the four lights was hers?

Harder

Who: the host signs P and thanks you for keeping the fire, and of the two P's only one ever kept a fire. Where: the knocks of 1922 came through the kitchen wall, and plate D was taken at the kitchen hearth. By which light: the oldest, the one she kept.

The hour, in words

Sixteen cards as buttons in rows of three: six people, then six rooms, then four lights. Tap who, then where, then which light, then Accuse.

The answer

The answer is phoebe-kitchen-fire.

Phoebe, in the kitchen, by the fire. She kept the fire with you in 1665 and the host thanked you for keeping it; the house knocked her name through the kitchen wall in 1922; she is the girl at the hearth on plate D and the girl at the kitchen fire Clare wrote to in 1942. Pike, the other P, never cared what became of the house.
